I received the dreaded red light brake errors on my instrument cluster, so I was preparing for the worst (broken SBC computer). When I scanned for errors, fortunately it only showed a faulty brake light switch.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Black Wiper Filler Cap (Pre Facelift W211)

I always hate the bright blue caps for the wiper fluid and when there is an OEM option to change it something better, I am all ears πŸ™‚

I was notified that the pre-facelift W211 E-class had a nice black & yellow cap instead of the ugly blue one. I was able to source used / second hand one for cheap. Retouched the yellow with some yellow caliper paint I had laying around and presto!

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, First Dragy 100-200km/u Measurement, 9.72s!

Met up with Chris van Driveaholic.nl. Chris brought his Dragy with him so it’s rude not to put it to use. Very nice 100-200km/u run on the autobahn in Germany, with an excellent result; 9,72 seconds for a stock car!

Considering it was measured with 2 people in the car, around 75% fuel in the tank and EURO RON95 petrol (instead of RON98 or Aral RON102).

Safe to say that my CLS55 is quite healthy πŸ˜‰ And very happy with this baseline. On to the next dragy runs!




Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Original Gates Serpentine Belt 1139970292 6K2449

Replaced the Contitech 6K2445 serpentine belt with an original Gates belt and was very surprised to see the actual difference. The ribs of the OE Gates belt are significantly thicker than the Contitech (Continental), something I did not expect to see.

Even though it’s way more expensive than the Contitech (about 70 euro vs 20 euro), I’m happy that I have chosen the Original OE option.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, SL65 AMG Grille

Replaced the original CLS55 AMG 3 louvre grille with a single louvre Mercedes SL65 AMG type of grille. I didn’t expect the grille to make such a difference in looks. Very happy with the outcome!

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Quick Charge USB Ports & Volt Gauge

Replaced the volt gauge and normal USB ports for another one with Quick Charge USB ports, which makes them a bit more usable for me.




Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Replacing The Crankshaft Double Pulley

After a incident in the garage, I had the idea that the crank pulley had a slight wobble. As these pulleys are known to separate (after a long period), I didnt feel comfortable with the car and made the decision to get this replaced.

Off course, its not a cheap item to replace, as this is an AMG specific item (2 belts running of the crank pulley, 1 for the accessory belt (6 ribs) and 1 for the supercharger (8 ribs)).

I went to Mercedes specialist Ralph Eidams in Brunssum where they were able to replace it within the hour, keeping down costs on labour. Even though it probably wasn’t necessary, I ultimately did it for peace of mind. I also let them replace the front main axle seal (krukaskeerring).

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Porsche Edition Lifehammer Evolution

Was able to buy some Lifehammer Evolutions from the Porsche Webshop, for about half the price of current retail prices (€9 euro instead of +- €20 euro). Also they come in sleek grey instead of bright orange, which fits the CLS interior better.

I bought 3 of them (2 for the CLS, 1 for our VW Lupo).

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Scored An Upgrade Intercooler / Heat Exchanger

Was able to order an upgrade intercooler / heat exchanger for a very reasonable price. You will have to resort to US import, meaning higher costs.

They are very hard to get in the Netherlands for a good price, so happy days! It’s only a matter of finding time as it should be a pretty straightforward installation.




Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Upgrading To The Gates HD Fleetrunner Micro-V K080510HD 8PK1294 Supercharger Belt

It was apparent that the best in Supercharger belt would be the very popular green “Gates HD” belt, but it seems there is an even better one (more on that later).

When I ordered this belt, at the moment I thought this was the best that Gates had to offer. Its very popular as an upgrade belt and you will see it being used on many M113k engines (stock & tuned).

This belt should prevent slippage (meaning lost power) and will last a long time.

I have a stock supercharger pulley, so 1294mm is the correct belt length.

When working on the CLS55, I bought 2 new rubber isolators for the radiator. The isolators make sure that the radiator is securely mounted and isolates the vibration from the radiator cooling fan whenever it kicks in.

Decided to replace the 2 old Secondary Air Injection (SAI) hoses on the front of the big V8 M113k engine. As I pulled them of, they started to deteriorate, so I was just in time. The SAI system helps the catalysts heat up faster in a cold start situation.

Bought a new jack pad (which slots into the front subframe) as I broke it when working on the car. I also noticed that 2 rubber isolators from the airbox were missing, so I also bought 2 new ones to prevent the airbox from making contact with the surge tanks.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Temporary Fix For The Oil Filler Neck

Had to apply a temporary fix for the oil filler neck, as it’s still leaking a bit (more like sweating). Used silicone sealant as a temporary measure. I will probably replace the filler neck somewhere next year.

Also took the liberty to replace the old coolant expansion reservoir/tank with a fresh new one. The new reservoir was including a new coolant cap and coolant level sensor.

Even though I already replaced both valve cover gaskets, the left side started to leak again. I used Febi Bilstein gaskets, that is the last time I will use them for gaskets.

I replaced them with Viktor Reinz gaskets, which are specialists in gaskets.




Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Damaged Radiator Fan Housing

I accidentally dropped the CLS from my floor jack when I was working on the transmission. I scraped the radiator fan housing and possibly also the crank pulley. Fortunately, the radiator cooling fan is still 100% functional, so no need for replacement now.

Created some closeup shots of the valve body after the CLS refused to go into the correct gear. I suspected something wrong with the valve body, but in the end I needed to do a transmission adaptation reset…(which is mandatory after you replace the conductor plate).

Bought new wheel bolts for the front and rear axle. I thought I ordered black wheel bolts for the front axle, but it seems not πŸ™‚

So I painted the tops gloss black, so at least they look black when you look at them. I bought wheel bolts with a movable cap, which should center the wheel better than normal bolts.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Replacing the 722.6 Gearbox Conductor Plate & Transmission Fluid Refresh

As part of the big preventative maintenance, I swapped out the conductor plate for the 5-speed 722.6 automatic torque converter gearbox (which is pretty much bulletproof) and also did a fluid refresh. Its almost impossible to get all the fluid out, that is done better with a flush (done with specialist equipment).

I replaced almost 6 liters, the rest remains in the system off course in the coolers and the rest of the transmission plumbing. Maybe somewhere next year do this again, but also replace all/some solenoids and go to a transmission specialist.

Pro tip: Transmission adaptation reset is mandatory! I used method 2 of the video below




Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Front Suspension Refresh

When doing previous work below the car, I noticed some original suspension components, which attributes to bad driving behaviour. As I intend to drive this car for a while, I made the decision to refresh the front suspension for now.

The work is not that complex and can be done by the DIY mechanic, but take your time.

All the front suspension components which will be replaced (thrust arms, wishbones, inner+outer tie rods, lower ball joints)

Also added the upper ball joints, as this was an easy swap!

As preparation of refreshing the front suspension, I bought the special tool to press out (and in) the ball joints which are housed in the knuckle on the W211/W219 platform.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Replacing Roof Window Trim

The roof window trim had seen beter days. On both sides, the “curtains” were torn, which is something that annoyed me very much as the CLS is a luxury car.

Bought 2 new trim pieces from Mercedes, they were quite easy to replace. Start from the outside of the car with the window tilted. You should then be able to lift out the trim pieces and then continue from the inside. On the front of the roof window, a hard plastic piece keeps the trimpieces in place with a small notch.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Repairing The Airmatic Compressor to Valveblock Airline

My MacGuyver method for repairing the airline did not hold out very long, so I needed something structurally. Fortunately, Mercedes sells a piece of airline (1.5m) for repairing/maintaining the Airmatic system, which was exactly what I needed.

A mod which has been tested on MBworld already, heatwrapping the intake tubes to keep as much heat out of them as possible. I had white heatwrap lying around, so I used that πŸ™‚

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Leaking Rocker Cover Gasket (Again)

Last time I will be using gaskets from Febi Bilstein as the rocker cover started leaking again around cilinder 4. Replaced it with a Viktor Reinz gasket. If it will leak again, I will buy them from the Mercedes dealer.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Vinyl Steering Wheel Cover

I love a thicker steering wheel and a simple way to do it is with a steering wheel cover. I have done this mod a number of times on previous cars with great succes, and this one worked out great as well. Very happy with the result, as it gives way more grip.

On pictures it looks like a big color difference, but in reality its not that bad. I have chosen a black inlay and black yarn, as a color would look out of place.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Replacing The Engine Mounts With Meyle Mounts

As part of further preventative maintenance, I replaced both the engine mounts with fresh new Meyle engine mounts. Unfortunately no HD version available. Next time I will probably replace them with Mercedes Black Series mounts, as these are a popular upgrade.

It’s highly recommended to replace them, as it makes a major difference!

Meyle (new) on the left and old on the right. I almost thought that I ordered the wrong ones as there was a clear height difference. But they sag over time, so that is to be expected.
Its highly recommended to have this tool ready as this makes it a lot easier to undo the top nut!

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Damina Performance DM04 19 Inch Black Wheels

Was able to score another set of wheels just across the border (in Germany). The design from the Damina Performance DM04 wheels looked like something that I thought would look great on the CLS.

But after fitting them it left me with an underwhelming feeling. Sometimes, things can look good on paper, but in reality it doesn’t work out. For me, it was with these wheels. They look absolutely great, but I dont like the way they look on the CLS.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Heat Insulation Airboxes Part 2

Added extra heat insulation on the airboxes, as they sit on top of the hot V8 engine (almost like a “hot v” setup). They can use all the help they can need to keep the incoming air as cool as possible, and using gold heat reflective tape is one of them.




Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Testing The Osram Airzing Mini Air Purifier

I’m a sucker for gadgets and I always wanted to try out the Osram Airzing Mini air purifier. But at the time, retail price was about 50-60 euro’s, which was way too expensive.

In the meantime, it has dropped to about 15-18 euro’s which was ok for me to give it a shot. To be honest, I haven’t really noticed improvement, but I always had a ioniser in my previous cars.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Replacing The Supercharger Idler Pulley

I noticed that the supercharger idler pulley had quite some dirt accumulation on it and also felt a bit of play, so decided to replace it with a new pulley. I made the right decision as the grease was escaping and therefore attracting the dirt.

Runs smooth again with the new pulley. When I will upgrade with billet pulleys, I will also replace the tensioner itself.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Replacing The 4 AMG Exhaust Rubbers

Replaced all 4 exhaust rubbers with OE AMG exhaust rubbers. Each AMG logo adds approximately 1 HP, which is good value for money πŸ˜›

I bought a special tool to make this easier, and I can highly recommend it! Made replacing them way easier and faster without the need for cutting them up or using flathead screwdrivers etc.

I was suprised with this look, which is a horror type of situation for every CLS owner with Airmatic suspension. In the end I tracked the issue down to a leaking compressor air line (to the valve body), which solved the issue.




Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Leather Maintenance With Sonax Leather Care

After reading a whole bunch of positive reviews on Amazon about the Sonax Leather Care, I bought a bottle and went to work on the almost full leather interior of the CLS55. It worked well, the product was absorbed really fast, that leads me to believe it was really needed (as leather is a natural product).

Will be doing this every few months to get the most out of the interior!




Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Replacing The Power Steering Reservoir & Fluid

The power steering reservoir on the W211 & W219 platform have a filter built in. This filter is not serviceable, meaning that you need to replace the reservoir if you also want to replace the filter.

I took the liberty to replace the reservoir/filter and also flush the complete system and put fresh new synthetic oil in.

I used a vacuumpump to get most of the old red mineral fluid out. Then replaced the reservoir and used the “lock-to-lock” steering motion to pump all the old fluid out. Temporarily cap off the return line on the new reservoir and extend the return line to any suitable container for the old fluid.

I used about 2 liters to flush the system and 1 liter to fill the system. Febi Bilstein CHF 11-S Nr. 06161 is the correct fluid for this system.

Steering goes noticeably lighter after this service!

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Servicing The Supercharger Oil

One of the most common overlooked service items, is replacing the supercharger oil. The gears of the supercharger spin very fast and need proper lubrication and cooling. Because it spins so fast, it requires a special type of oil: Mobil Jet Oil II (Synthetic Jet Engine Oil).

This oil is not that widely available to customers and also not very cheap. I used a 150ml syringe with some hose to extract the oil and fill it up again. It holds 150ml maximum, but you can never get all the oil out unless you remove the supercharger. I removed about 130ml, and put back the same amount in fresh oil.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Some Statistics

Someone asked me on a forum how many kilometers per litre the CLS55 does and I was happy to share that information with them. Yes it’s a big engine with a lot of power, but when you treat it gently it can be quite economical for it’s size.

I achieved a respectable 1:8.5 over 155km (mostly highway) with cruising speeds around 120km/u. Also the fuel gauge indicated a half tank when I had already driven 350km’s, which suprised me!

I love the white gauges in the black dashboard πŸ™‚

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Replacing The Serpentine Belt

Replaced the serpentine belt, under the guise of “while I am in there”. It was quite a hassle, but unfortunately, I will do it again as this belt seems a little short to my liking. The tensioner has ample room to move this way, which is not how I like to see it.

I replaced it with a Dayco 6PK2440 belt if I am not mistaken.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Cleaning The Belly Pans

After changing the oil, I was left with 3 dirty belly pans. Actually, the first one was pretty clean. But the 2nd & 3rd were really dirty due to oil leaking and dirt accumulating on that oil.

But a good degreaser and pressure washer work wonders. I totally forgot to take ‘after” pictures, so you will have to believe me on this one πŸ˜‰

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, My First Oil Change With LiquiMoly 5W40 High Tech

Performed the first oil change on the CLS55 with LiquiMoly High Tech Low Resistance 5W40 oil. Bought 2x 5 Liter canisters, as the big 5.4 Liter takes about 8.5 Liters of oil in total. Also added in 1.5 canister of LiquiMoly Ceratec, a well known working friction modifier.

List:

  • 2x 5 Liter LiquiMoly High Tec Low Resistance 5W40
  • 1x Mann Oil Filter HU718/5X
  • 2x Mercedes Oil Sump Plug A3529970032
  • 1x Katsu Oil Filter Wrench Set

This was my setup for the day, used 2 ramp, which has enough ground clearance.

This is how the oil filter looked. It was in a bad state, seems the previous owner skimped out on maintenance…The rubber O-rings especially were very old and worn.

The M113k engine has 2 sumps, a front scavenging sump and in the back the main sump. I saw a lot of oil leakage, most of it was due to the rocker covers as far as I could judge for now.

Performed some other things “while I was in there”, but I will describe that in separate posts.




Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Replacing The Rear Differential Oil

1.5 Liter of 75W140 GL5 Differential oil (LiquiMoly) and 2x new filler caps for the rear differential. I didnt have the correct hex key, but a T70 torx also works. Will be doing this again in the near future, so all the old oil is replaced with new oil.

I used a big syringe (150ml), which actually worked out very well. I will always recommend using new plugs whenever you notice that the plugs look old.

When I replaced the spark plugs, I noticed some massive oil seepage/leaks from both the rocker covers. I bought the original Mercedes liquid sealant for the breather chambers. I already read that this would be cumbersome, and that was no lie.

But it’s all in the preparation (degrease properly!) and take your time for that, because this is not something you want to do a couple of times.

I found out that a deep 18mm socket and 1/2″ extension enabled me to use a kit gun, essentially making the job way easier! If you look closely, you will see the setup in the back of the photo.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Replacing K&N Air Filters With OEM Paper Air Filters

Replaced the K&N drop-in filters with OEM paper filters (Febi Bilstein), as I prefer better filtration over a little more throughput. I don’t think I will notice the difference with my standard CLS55 AMG.




Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Replacing The Cabin Filter With Mann FreciousPlus Filter

Replaced the cabin filter as I did not know when it was last replaced. I was unaware that Mann had a new type of filter, which transcends the pollen and active carbon filter type.

Their FreciousPlus series is also anti-bacterial, making you stay as healthy as possible within your car πŸ™‚ I used Mann FP3172 for the CLS55. As you can see, it needs to be replaced every year or 15.000km.

After about 187.000km (or 17 years), the original coil packs are due for retirement in my garage πŸ˜‰ Car seems to run a little better after placing the new coil packs!

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, New Vband Clamps For Non-Resonated Catback Exhaust

On of the previous owners clipped something, as the Vband clamps for the non-resonated catback were damaged and therefore leaking (a little bit).

I replaced both of them with brand new clamps, so the seal is airtight again!

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Replacing Rear Swaybar Links / Droplinks

The rear swaybar still had the original droplinks, so they were in dire need to be replaced. I replaced them with fresh new droplinks from Febi Bilstein. This tightens up the rear of the car a little bit. For maximum effect, I will need to overhaul the complete suspension (which I will be doing in time!)




Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Changing The 16 Spark Plugs With Beru Ultra Titan UPT14P

Replaced all 16x (!) spark plugs with fresh new Beru UPT14P Ultra Titan Spark plugs. They are pre-gapped at 0.75mm and I adjusted them to 0.8mm as per factory specifications.

They needed to be replaced a little while ago, too bad that some people skimp out on needed maintenance.

Engine mounts are usually forgotten as a maintenance item, but not for me! I checked my options and found that Meyle had an upgraded mount in their product line. The upgraded series from Meyle are known as the “HD” series and they are OEM+ replacements.

I chose the Meyle HD gearbox mount to replace the factory Mercedes mount. Fitment 100% and the build quality looks to be very good. The front engine mounts will be replaced as well by Meyle mounts!

I don’t get people who live with worn old bonnet struts. They dont cost much and they make all the difference, especially if you work on your own car.

They were still the factory bonnet struts, so probably 17 years old.




Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Replacing The Flex / Giubo / Hardy Discs (Prop Shaft)

Noticed at a routine inspection that the prop shaft flex discs (also known as giubo or hardy discs) were showing quite some wear. After 17 years, that is to be expected. But to be honest, I thought they would have been replaced already.

Replaced them with Tedgum discs including new shiny bolts. Happy with the end result as I felt a more positive engage from the drivetrain. Job done!

Replaced the Airmatic air filter, which makes sure that dirt & debris stay out of the Airmatic system. Mercedes uses a fuel filter, repurposed as an air filter for this system. The partnumber is: WK 32/6 (Mann filter)

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Replacing The Airmatic Compressor

With 186k kilometers on the clock and 17 years old, its good to start replacing parts as a preventative measure. After 17 years, rubber will be hard and brittle and electrical components might show fatigue or arent as “snappy’ as 17 years ago.

The Airmatic compressor (and relay) works hard to keep the 4 air springs inflated and after 17 year, its time for a rebuild or a pension πŸ˜‰ I chose rebuild (and pension), so I always have a good one as spare. For good measure, also swap the Airmatic relay!

The new compressor in place. Unfortunately, the new compressor has a slightly different layout, so I worked around that by extending the air line. I used reinforced 4mm ID vacuum line to get it to work

Broken cables in the rear hatch. Its a common issue on the C219 W219 platform (probably also on W211 platform).

Functions that ceased to function were:

  • Boot handle
  • Auto Close button

  • Boot light (intermittent)

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Converting The 12v Socket to 2x USB With Voltage Gauge

Modified the cigarette lighter with a voltage gauge and 2x USB charging ports, which is way more relevant nowadays.

Took some small modification to make it work, but it looks good and is very useful.

Rearside, you have to remove the KeylessGo module and a small bulb holder. Then use some force to push the plastic retaining clips and wiggle the cigarette lighter out

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Inspecting The Bottom Rear Side

Was a little curious to see what I would encounter so I made a picture of the bottom rear side. All the accumulated dirt in the differential heatsink was removed and cleaned thorougly, so it could function properly again.

The rest looked good, no rust issues, other than some surface rust on some parts. It also gives a good look on the modified exhaust (center resonator delete).

Weighed the big wide rear tyres. They come in around 24.5KG which isnt that bad!

Changed the air springs on the CLS55, just as a precaution. With 186.000 kms on the clock, that is not a bad thing to do. Replaced them with eBay units.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Andreas Kawula Built My Engine!

With help of a forum member on Seat-Online.nl, I was able to find out that Andreas Kawula hand built the magnificent supercharged V8 in my CLS55 AMG. His signature is very hard to decipher, but the internet delivers again and verified that his name is indeed Andreas Kawula.

Fun fact: only the 55 & 63 engines were hand built. So a big thank you from the Netherlands, Andreas πŸ™‚ !

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, New Intake Pipes (Gold Tape Heatwrap)

Noticed that one of the plastic intake tubes was broken, so I replaced them both. Fortunately, the intake pipes only costs 11 euro per piece, which is a steal!

I added gold plated tape, to fend of radiating heat and keep the incoming air as cool as possible. Took quite some time and effort, but I am happy with the end result and how it looks in the engine bay.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Special Tool For Replacing Engine Mounts

Bought a special tool, which is particularly handy when replacing the engine mounts on a CLS55 W219 or E55 W211. The exhaust manifold takes a fair bit of space on each side of the engine and there is where this tool comes in handy with removing the bolt which sits directly under the exhaust manifold (on each side).

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Upgrade To Hella LED Side Lights T10

With the upgrade to new Osram Xenarc Classic bulbs, I wanted to replace the W5W/T10 halogen side lights, as they simply look out of place.

After a extensive review of Sergiu Gabor, I opted for the Hella LED Retrofit bulbs. Fitment is 100%, they are canbus friendly (no errors) and they give a nice white uniform light, which is exactly what I was looking for.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Upgrade To LED License Plate Lights

Converted the license plate lights to LED units (thanks to Aliexpress). Instantly gives the car a more modern look. I applied some dark window tint film, to tone down the intensity. Too much LED light gives off a “chav” image, which is something I want to prevent at all times.

I had to do an visual inspection of the rear airbags of the Airmatic system and when I looked at the rear tyre, I totally forgot how wide they are…They should be, else it would be very hard to get all that power on the floor!

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, iCarsoft Diagnostics v3.0

A DIY mechanic wants and needs to know all about their car, and a proper diagnostics program/unit is therefore invaluable. I opted for the iCarsoft Diagnostics unit v3.0. I will probably look into Xentry/DAS in the near future, but having this small powerful device in the car is a godsend.

Its powered by the car, so essentially hassle free! Don’t forgot to update the unit using the software on the iCarsoft website.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Replacing the Supercharger Pulley Bearing (Nachi)

I decided to replace the supercharger pulley bearing with a fresh new Japan made Nachi bearing. One of the easiest way is the hot/cold method, where you heat up the pulley and freeze the bearing itself. This results in the bearing sliding into the pulley with relative ease.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, New Coolant Expansion Reservoir Cap & Oil Filler Cap

2 Items which are forgotten very easily in routine maintenance; the coolant expansion reservoir cap and the oil filler cap. The coolant cap is spring loaded cap (mechanical component (!)), which is usually set to 1.1 BAR, to allow the coolant to vent whenever the pressure is too high. But when it vents too fast (spring lost tension), the coolant system is not able to operate efficiently.

Therefore its a good habit of changing these out every now and then. For the couple of euros, it should not be forgotten.

I also swapped out the oil filler cap, as this was leaking/seeping out a little bit of oil.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Osram Xenarc Classic D2S HID Bulbs

Thanks to Sergiu Gabor, I found out that these Osram Xenarc Classic bulbs almost perform as well as the Xenarc Night Breaker Laser bulbs. The Night Breaker Laser bulbs cost about 80-90 euro, where the Xenarc Classic bulbs only cost about 40-50 euro.

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Air Intake Flaps Modification

Made a small modification to the intake flaps, by removing a small portion of them. This should, in theory, make sure that air is able to enter the intake pipes directly (instead of indirectly).

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, Aligning Door Windows

The CLS has a common issue with the window not sealing properly against the door frame. When this happens, water and dirt/debris is able to get in the cabin. But it also introduces a lot of wind noise, which is not something which fits the luxury of this car.

To fix it, you need to undo 1 bolt in the door. I believe its a 10mm bolt which enables you to adjust the tilt of the window. Mine needed tilt more to allow for proper sealing again. I used a 1/4″ ratchet with a long extension. Its recommended to remove the trim to see what you are doing.

The bolt is accessible through the round rubber grommet in the door, but is hard to locate without removing the upper door trim.

This is a great, free fix!

Mercedes CLS55 AMG W219, a new chapter

Sold the Mini Cooper S R53 JCW not too long ago to pursue my dream of driving a V8 powered car with a lot of muscle.

I have been investigating for over a year what I really wanted to drive. Started with the E55 AMG W211, but the looks (especially the interior) looked a bit dated to me. Until I found out that the W219 chassis had the same engine in it, the CLS55 AMG.

I found one close by (there were only 3 on sale at the time) and after a good chat with the owner and a marvellous testdrive, I bought it. Absolutely love the car! A lot of maintenance has already been done by me and a lot still has to be done. Im happy with somewhere between 500 and 600BHP, but that is something for later.
