Dit jaar was het alweer tijd voor de zesde editie van het bekende Freefunk Festival. Wat begon als een klein hersenspinsel, is inmiddels uitgegroeid tot een waar fenomeen. Freefunk is een van de grootste gratis dancefestivals van Nederland en wordt gehost in het Julianapark te Venlo. Verspreid over twee dagen, worden bezoekers getrakteerd op een diversiteit aan lokale, nationale en internationale DJ’s.
Het programma zag er ook dit jaar weer goed uit. Wat mij opviel is dat lokale DJ Sam O’ Neall ontbrak op de zondag, de dag waarop de meeste acts zijn. Dat bleek uiteindelijk een ongegrond vermoeden, want de afsluitact werd verzorgd door Sam O’Neall. Het publiek van The Beat Factory werd opgezweept door een sterke set van het magische duo Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Erick-E, Nobody Beats The Drum en werd daarna getrakteerd op een mooie set van Sam.
